The Most Important Mindset Shift You Can Make
For most of my life, I have had insecurities about my body. I’ve always thought of myself as the smart kid, and then the smart woman—but not necessarily the athletic woman. Fitness felt like something that was more for other people, not for me.
But when I decided to start following the FASTer Way lifestyle and make exercise—especially strength training—a regular part of my life, something shifted. Yes, my body got stronger, but the real transformation happened in how I saw myself.
It wasn’t about my size. It wasn’t about aesthetics. It was about confidence. Strength training gave me a sense of capability that I had never felt before. And that’s what I want for every woman.
The Purpose of Exercise Isn’t What You Think
I just returned from a FASTer Way coach conference, and the focus this year was very much on mindset. And I can’t stress enough how important mindset is in making all the other pieces—nutrition, exercise, habits—work. Because if we’re constantly criticizing ourselves, it doesn’t matter how healthy we eat or how many workouts we complete. We’ll never feel like we’re doing enough.
The purpose of exercise is not to lose X number of pounds or to get a six-pack of abs. It’s not about looking a certain way at all.
What true fitness is about is building strength so that you can live your life fully as you navigate perimenopause into menopause and beyond. It’s about having the energy to do what you love, the resilience to handle life’s challenges, and the confidence to show up as the best version of yourself. It shows you that you can handle challenges.
We need to shift the narrative from criticizing ourselves to feeling confident in our bodies.

Here’s My Challenge to You
Go stand in front of a mirror. Right now (or when you finish reading this ).
And even if you feel absolutely ridiculous, I want you to tell yourself one thing you love about what you see. So many women struggle to do this because of the stories we have been told over and over… that we aren’t good enough.
If that feels impossible, start small. Maybe it’s something you sort of like. Maybe it’s something you appreciate about your body’s strength or ability. Even if it doesn’t feel true yet, say it anyway.
Because the way you talk to yourself matters. And shifting your mindset is the first step to unlocking the confidence, strength, and energy you deserve.
