Why more protein isn’t always the answer
I have a confession…I am a naturopathic doctor and a fitness and nutrition coach who loves to sometimes drink Old Fashioneds and eat Salt & Vinegar chips. I’m definitely not perfect. I generally find it’s easier to be more consistent with my nutrition than my workouts. But over the past six weeks, I’ve dialled in on both (not every day… I still had some of the above, but most days)—and not surprisingly, I feel really good!
This experience isn’t just mine. A client of mine had been working hard to eat more protein because she kept hearing how important it was for women over 40 to stay strong, mobile, and reduce health risks. But when we sat down and looked at her numbers, we realized she was actually eating too much protein.
So, we adjusted. She dialled back her protein slightly and focused more on balancing her fat, carbohydrates, and fiber. After only 3.5 weeks, she messaged me saying this…
And while the scale isn’t the only marker of progress, when you’re putting in the work , you naturally want to see changes.
That’s exactly why I believe so strongly about what I coach clients in my Faster Way program to do. It’s not just about eating more protein or working out more—it’s about finding the right balance for your body.
You need the right workouts to build muscle.
You need the right amount of food to fuel your body.
You don’t want to be eating too much—or too little.
And you want to be getting the right mix of protein, carbs, fat, and fiber.
