The Magic Combo to Being Fit,Strong and Healthy…

This good advice came across my Instagram feed this week:

The steps sound simple enough, but I know it can be really hard to put them all in place.

I often hear from my patients and FASTer Way clients that they feel overwhelmed and confused about what to do to improve their health and where to start. There is no shortage of information out there about what may be helpful for you and a lot of it is contradictory. Eat this. Don’t eat that. Skip breakfast. Don’t eat breakfast. Take this supplement. This supplement is harmful. How the heck do you make sense of it?

The thing is… there is no one size fits all. Everyone is different and there are many different paths that lead better health. My job is to help you figure out the best path for you.

”Get your nutrition right” is an important piece of the puzzle. It means giving your body what it needs to function optimally. It includes getting enough of the required macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein, fat and fibre) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals).

I like to check blood work where possible to get an objective baseline - vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, creatinine (rough marker of protein consumption), look for insulin resistance (measure of carbohydrate metabolism) are tests I order frequently. The ideal is to get as much of that nutrition from whole foods as possible and to make up the difference with the right dose of the right supplements.

It feels SO good to feel good!

I would also add another step to the above list: “Find support and accountability.”. It’s hard to be successful navigating your path all alone. It’s much easier to take healthy steps when you have someone helping you find the path that is best for your body and goals so that you don’ have to struggle figuring it out yourself.
