Healthy Living in your 40s

I decided to treat myself for my birthday back in April and purchased a Lumen device (no affiliation at all) so I could better track how my body is burning carbs and fat for energy throughout the day.

This device measures the CO2 output in your breath. That translates into whether you are mostly in a carb or fat-burning state.

Ideally, you want to wake up in a fat-burning state and then move back and forth between carbs and fat as energy sources throughout the day.

Many people spend the majority of their time in sugar burning, and that has many negative health consequences including poorer sleep quality, higher blood sugar levels, weight gain, and increased inflammation.

I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to this kind of stuff, and I love it when it’s possible to objectively see the results that happen from different lifestyle choices.

If I drink alcohol, that definitely makes it harder to switch to fat burning the next day.

So does lack of sleep,

Or not eating enough (spoiler alert: almost all of my clients find they need to eat more to increase their energy and lose weight ).

Or not drinking enough water.

Or not being consistent with my workouts (all it takes is 30 minutes with a focus on strength training)

The exciting part is that when you know what works for you, then you are really going to start seeing changes and feeling amazing.

Guess what’s even more exciting? I can give you a clear plan to follow so that you don’t have to go through all the guesswork of figuring out what to do!
